Can audit defense be purchased if you haven't efiled but opted to mail and hasn't been delivered yet?

I opted to print and mail my tax forms this year to IRS and state. I didn't purchase the audit defense but now am considering it. I just mailed out the finished tax documents and they won't be delivered until end of week. How does this work in this case?
