Hi, first time using estimated taxes over here. I did the 2022 Estimated tax worksheet by hand but wanted to check with turbotax (yes it’s late, but I didn’t get this new job until the last quarter 2022). So i looked in the past posts, saying to Not amend the 2021 return but to click on tax documents and then look for the link “Add a state.” I could not find this link, so I tried to just open up and amend the return by putting in numbers for the estimated taxes section, but then turbo closed on me. I didn’t save anything so nothing was changed. But I’m wondering what I did wrong…and why there is not an option to “add a state —> thus opening up the federal return that way, so I can check and make sure I did this form correctly.
Thanks all! Sincerely, confused Taxpayer

The trick to Add a State is only to get back into a current year (now 2022). To open 2021 or prior you need to download the .tax2021 file and install the 2021 Desktop program to open it. Seems like a lot of trouble to look at 2022 estimated payments.
You did nothing wrong other than use the online program and then got caught unfinished after the October shutdown. If you want to have access to your return year round you need to use one of the downloaded/CD versions which doesn't shut down.
Be careful ... if you use the 2022 online program then do NOT transfer in the falsely amended return you did with the amendment downloaded program.
