Brokerage made a mistake on 1099. I contacted them and they are making the fix. I don't think the corrected 1099 form will be available by 4/15. What should I do?

You can request an extension of time to file. Perhaps you have heard of it.

Thanks! I was aware of that, but I have dues to IRS, and I assume there will be punishment in such a case? I could not find any information about that.

Before April 15th, whatever you expect to owe should be paid with your request for more time to file.

Best way: Go to the IRS Direct Pay  page and select EXTENSION.

You will get immediate confirmation.
