Attempt to amend my 2022 tax return and get sent back to the logon panel

Hi, I am trying to amend my 2022 tax return using turbo tax online.  For the 2022 year, I click on the blue 'Amend using Turbo Tax Online' button and I get directed back to the logon panel.  I then logon turbo tax online again and click on the blue button and get routed back to the logon panel.  

I was able to capture the intermediate url which appears to be an error message before I get automatically redirected back to the logon panel.

Has anyone else observed this type of issue and able to work around it.

I clear cache, try different browsers, try 'incognito' mode and all with the same result.  

Here's that intermediate url before I get routed back to the logon panel.  I ####'d out 2 of the fields that had numbers specified, not knowing if they contained sensitive info.

It's easy enough to see if you can replicate, just click on the blue button 'Amend using Turbo Tax Online' and see if you get routed back to logon panel.

To access your prior year online tax returns sign onto the TurboTax website with the User ID you used to create the account - https://myturbotax.intuit.com/

Start the 2023 online tax return by entering some personal information then click on Tax Home on the left side of the screen.

On the Tax Home webpage -

Scroll down to the section Your tax returns & documents.  Click on the Year 2022 and Click on Amend (change) 2022 return

If you used the desktop CD/Download editions installed on your computer, the only copy of your tax data file and any PDF's will be on the computer where the return was created.  TurboTax does not store online any returns completed using the desktop editions.

Hi, thanks for this info.  I went ahead and started my 2023 return by completing the Personal Info section of my 2023 return as suggested. 

Then I clicked on the Tax Home webpage -

Scrolled down to the section Your tax returns & documents.  Click on the Year 2022 and Click on Amend (change) 2022 return

After I did that, I was once again routed back to the sign on page for turbo tax online.  I was able to capture the intermediate url again and it looks like the same issue.

I did go ahead and logon again and attempt to amend my 2022 return and was routed to the sign on page again.

Looks similar to original issue.

@donovanw1 The following screen shot is what you should see after clicking Amend (change) 2022 return

Suggest you sign off your TurboTax online account and then clear cache and cookies on your web browser.

Sign back onto your TurboTax account and see if the problem persists.  If it does then try changing your web browser to one these you are not currently using (recommend Google Chrome) - Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Microsoft Edge

Hi, thanks for this info.  I use turbo tax online.  Here's what my screen looks like.  

When I click on that blue button 'Amend using TurboTax Online', is when I get routed back to the sign on screen for turbo tax online.  

After I click on that blue button, I temporarily get routed here which presents itself as a blank screen

which then routes my back to the sign on screen.  Very odd.  

I tried Edge and Chrome.  I cleared cookies and cache and still have same result.

At this point it appears that you need to contact TurboTax support for assistance.

No problem, sounds good.  This is good stuff, thanks for taking the time replying quickly.  I figure since this is related to online account and not some version installed on my laptop, I'm sure others are going to hit this and get stuck also, so when I get the resolution from the turbo tax folks, I will post it here.

I called Turbo Tax.  They told me that this is an existing issue.  They said that they attached my ticket to the existing issue and was told that I would get an email when the issue was resolved.  I was told this would be in a couple of days.  So I will try again on 12/7 and follow up with them if I still see the same issue.

Hey, just wanted to post an update here.  I've tried to efile my amended Fed and state returns quite a few times since Dec 2023.  Eventually the issue of getting routed back to the logon screen went away.  Then the issue for the past 2 months was that turbotax online would not support e-filing and the tool stated to print the amended returns and physically mail them.  

So I just stayed patient and didn't physically mail my amended returns.

Well I think my patience paid off.  I went into Turbo tax online on 3/3/24 and somehow magically I was able to efile my amended 2022 Fed and state returns.  Within hours I received notification that both the Fed and State were accepted.  

For the record, I did call turbotax help quite a few times and the consistent response was that TurboTax does not support efiling amended returns.  That didn't make sense to me since why would the tool give you the option to efile.  So I guess I just happen to hold out long enough and maybe something happened on 3/1/24 that opened efiling back up again.
