Amended Return

I didn't get my depended part of my 1st two stimulus checks.  I have already filed and got my return.  The IRS said to do an amended return, but I can't find on the amended form how to do that.  Any suggestions?

Thank you,

Jennifer

Amended Return

Yes.  You can amend your return to include this.  You will find this in the Federal Review area.

If you did not receive your first and/or second stimulus payment or if the amount received is not correct, you can claim it on your 2020 tax return as the Recovery Rebate Credit.

In TurboTax Online, to claim the Recovery Rebate credit please do the following:

  1. Sign into your account and continue from where you left off
  2. Click on Federal in the left-hand column, then on Federal Review on the top of the screen
  3. On the next page titled Let's make sure you got the right stimulus amount, click on Continue
  4. Follow the interview
  5. TurboTax will determine whether you are entitled to any additional stimulus
  6. Any stimulus amount remaining due to you will show as a credit on line 30 of your form 1040.

Amended Return

There isn't anything tab on the side for Federal Review.  It won't let me do a federal review because I already filed and my taxes are done, so it won't let me choose that option.  I can go to the amended form, but I don't know how to get started on it for a tax credit.  When I did my 2020 taxes, it did ask me about the stimulus check but it said that I had received the correct amount.  I contacted the IRS and they said I should have gotten the depended amount on the checks and to do an amended form, but Turbotax isn't letting me do it.

Thanks,

Jennifer

Amended Return

Since you have already filed, you will need to go through the amend process from the beginning. Here are the steps you will need to take:

Once your original return is accepted and the finances are settled, you can file an amended return.
