I amended my 2019 return. After over a year I received an amount which was around $600 less than what I requested. I got a CP21B notice which said "We made the changes you requested" but there is no explanation for the difference. It says that if I do not agree that I should call, but I cannot get through.
Should I deposit the check? How should I get an explanation for this? Should I try writing to them by conventional mail?
Thanks,
Moses

Should I deposit the check? Yes ...please do.
How should I get an explanation for this? Did you review your original and amended return carefully ? Does that $600 show up somewhere ? Did you check/review your tax transcripts against those returns yet ? Doing so may answer your question. https://www.irs.gov/payments/your-online-account
Should I try writing to them by conventional mail? You can however expect a response to take months.

Thanks for the response. I checked the transcript and it looks like a separate refund for the amount was just issued today.
