Ameding a 2018 tax return online

I need to amend a 2018 tax return online.    I tried the instructions found in another post, but that only lets you download the .tax file and the turbotax client and then expects you to edit it in the client.  Problem with that is that I already have the client installed and when I try to open the .tax file it wants me to buy the additional states I need for $44.99 which I think I already paid for last year online.

I need to know how to amend this 2018 return online or locally without having to rebuy the states needed.

I appreciate the response, but maybe you misread this in the message.  There is no option to "Select Amend using TurboTax Online."  

As I mentioned, I can only download the .tax file but I can't edit it in the TurboTax client without paying for the Kentucky state it says which I did not want to pay $44.99 for since I should be able to amend online.

Any more thoughts?

 If it won't let you bypass the payment portion, you will need to contact customer service directly.  Please see the below link:

Any tips on how to contact support directly?  That link takes me a to a form to fill out and then wants $30 for assistance.  This is really a software question, not a tax question.  Do they really not have free support when it appears you can not do something the software should let you do?

Thanks, that is what I tried to do in the first place.  I understand it is not your fault, but to have to pay to get an answer to a question about the product, when the solution they post online is not valid, is asinine.  I'll just figure it out on my own I guess.  Thanks again for trying.

You have the 2018 program installed?  What version?  But you used the Online version to file 2018?  Do you have more than 1 state return in your tax file?  Like for 2 different states?  The Desktop program does come with one free state program.

OH DUH,   to get the state you need to start a new fake return, go up to File - New and enter some basic info.  Then go to the state tab and download the free state.  Then you can open your .tax2018 file.
