Adjusted refund amount

So I’m a bit confused. I went to where is my refund via IRS.GOV, i know I had a few offsets so I was not surprised to see an adjusted refund amount, however why was my deposit from TurboTax less than the adjusted refund amount also? Like significantly less not just “tax prep fees” less.

Adjusted refund amount

No one in the user forum can see your tax return, and TurboTax never knows about offsets to your refund.   You say you had a "few offsets"---for back taxes, child support?   Only the IRS knows about those offsets and they will send you a letter in several weeks to explain how much they took from your refund and why.

As for any other difference---

TurboTax does not get any information from the IRS after you file your tax return, so no one at TT knows why your refund was less.

You have not mentioned any specific amounts.  Sometimes we can make an educated guess as to the reason for your reduced refund if you mention specific amounts--for example if your refund was short by $1400---it is likely to be a mix up regarding the 3rd EIP payment.   If it is short by $1800 or  $1500 or  a multiple of that amount  ---   maybe a mixup regarding the advance child tax credit payments.   Or---the fees you were supposed to pay for using TurboTax + the "refund processing fee" charged by the third party bank….

Did you choose to have TT fees deducted from your Federal refund?  (Remember that if you did that, you also agreed to an extra refund processing fee of $39.99 or $44.99 in CA)

The IRS will send you a letter that explains why your refund was reduced.   Meanwhile it might help you to check your online IRS account.

Adjusted refund amount

I don’t think it matters what the offsets were for to get my question answered. Point is I am aware of the offsets as TT keeps running back to “your refund was lower because if possible offsets”. I already know that.

When using the IRS WHERE IS MY REFUND app, my ADJUSTED REFUND AMOUNT that the IRS states was sent to my bank account (TT) was $1400 on March 16,2022. The amount deposited by TT was $158. Unless TT takes $1200+ in filing fees, I want an explanation of where the remainder of the money is.

Adjusted refund amount

Is the IRS saying that the taxable Social Security amount (not the SSN itself) was wrong?   That can happen if the IRS adjusts your other income, which can make more of your Soc Sec taxable.  Please wait for the letter in the mail from the IRS.
