Accidentally claiming recovery rebate

So they took it out of your refund and also took it out of your bank account?  Haven't heard anyone post that.

How long did it take to update and receive your DDD?

Accidentally claiming recovery rebate

It took one week for mine to update with DDD. I'm cycle 05 so I update weekly.

Accidentally claiming recovery rebate

I made a mistake in claiming the $1400 and when I checked I had already received it, and now my federal refund is delayed.

Accidentally claiming recovery rebate

If you entered the wrong amount you got for the 3rd Stimulus payment and claimed the wrong remaining amount on 1040 line 30 for the Recovery rebate credit,  the IRS will automatically adjust it for you and either reduce your refund or send you a bill.  It will delay your return.  You don't need to amend for that.

Status of 2021 Tax Return Refund Delay

I filed on Jan 30, 2022 and my return was accepted the next day Jan 31. I went to check the status using the IRS2GO app and received this message:

We apologize, but your return processing has been delayed beyond the normal timeframe. You can continue to check back here for the most up to date information regarding your refund. We understand your tax refund is very important and we are working to process your return as quickly as possible.

Please read the following information related to your tax situation:
Tax Topic 152, Refund Information

Please Note: For refund information, please continue to check here, or visit the Refunds page on IRS.gov. Updates to refund status are made no more than once a day.

Since then I have checked IRS2GO every day and it says the same thing. I started researching what Tax Topic 152 was which took me to info about refund timing and reasons it could be delayed. I checked the list and none of the reasons pertained to me so I checked Tax Topic 303 which was a whole list of errors that would cause delays. Again, none of the reasons pertained to me. I didn’t know what else to do so I got out the hard copy of my 2021 Tax Return and started dissecting it line by line. I finally found it on Line 30 of my 1040 Tax Form which referred to a Recovery Rebate Credit which I had never heard and knew absolutely nothing about. There was a $1400 credit entry that I didn’t remember making and it added $1400 to my refund amount. Still I had NO idea what this was or why it was delaying my refund so I Googled what a Recovery Rebate Credit was and I learned that if you enter an amount on Line 30 that you are telling the IRS that you DID NOT receive your last Economic Stimulus Payment in 2021 which is why they are adding it to your refund. I filed through Turbo Tax and I don’t recall being asked if I received it. They said I would have received Notice 1444-C to inform you how much Economic Impact $ you received. Well, I never received one of those because I went through a divorce and moved 2x since filing for 2020 and they send it to the last address you lived at when you filed last. So I imagine my ex husband got it and tossed it, I honestly don’t know. Then I saw a link where it said go here if you don’t have or never received the 1444-C Notice so I clicked on the link and was able to pull up any Notifications that the IRS sent me. To my surprise it said there weren’t any notifications ever sent to me at all. My next step was to call the 800# listed which not only was automated but basically only told me everything the website already did and that my refund was delayed. I was referred to another 800# if I wanted to talk to a Tax Specialist. So I called and got another automated system that in the end referred me back to IRS.gov, the IRS2GO app and the original 800# that had told me to call them in the 1st place. I never actually spoke to a real live person. I did find out that if this did happen to you DO NOT FILE AN AMENDED RETURN. They said that the IRS is already reviewing it so they will correct the error and send you a new corrected copy of your return in the mail for you to approve which I currently have not received. As of today Tuesday 3-8-22 it’s been 37 days snce I filed and I still have absolutely no idea when this will be resolved…  I hope this detailed account will help somebody else…

Accidentally claiming recovery rebate

I’ve done everything you’ve done but what you can do to find out a little more information about your return is to login into irs.gov and look at your transcript (which I wish I had done before I file then I would have saw that they did issue me the $1,400 recovery rebate) but on your transcript you can see if the error has been corrected and it tells you you how much you will receive and I also see a future date of 3/21/22. It does not say that I’ll receive it that day but it give me a little hope that it’s coming. There are different codes on there you can Google the codes to tell you what they mean mine still has a code of 570 saying it’s still holding my return and it’s still be processed but I check everyday looking for code 571 which should tell me they have have finished processing my return. I honestly don’t understand why they are still processing if they have correct there error I made on line 30 and have a new refund amount but I’m hoping to see a change on or before 3/21/22. This has been a issue for SO MANY people I wish the IRS would put something out to tell people what to exspect and about how long it will take. I hope this helps

Accidentally claiming recovery rebate

Hi, I accidentally selected that I did not receive the 3rd stimulus check and the IRS adjusted my tax return amount 20 days after I filed and I received my federal return the next day (21 days after filing). Hopefully everyone else’s will be processed quickly!

Has there been any change yet? Tt worded this very odd and I made the same mistake. Irs also didn't send the needed info until 3 weeks after I filed but my husband got his letters the day before we filed and since we usually get them at the same time I thought that was it but they added my stimulus amount to his. It's been stuck at processing for a month now.

Which transcript are you looking at, it shows me an account transcript, return transcript, wage and income transcript, etc but I don't see any codes or where they'd put a date. The only date I did see was it said date received as April 15th when it was sent and accepted on Feb 15th

I'm so thankful I read your comment, this is exactly what happened to my husband and I. They sent double of everything else and we got them the very same day as one another but that one they only sent in his name so when it asked for both I put the amount they had down in his name and none in mine but his amount was apparently all ours combined. The question was worded badly as well. It'll be 4 weeks to the day in about 5 days so this definitely gives me hope. I wish they'd just send you a temporary username and password so families could just look it up and have all the info right there. I hadn't set up an irs account at that point but have now although it took over a week just to have all the info they were requesting to make the account. Now I know better I guess. I will say after I put the wrong info like 3 weeks later they sent my letter but I felt it was sent after they noticed my mistake to inform me it was received.

Accidentally claiming recovery rebate

So I filed my taxes a month ago on turbo tax. I received my state return, but received a notice on irs account saying my federal return had been adjusted due to credit rebate. And now my return looks like it will be deducted by 1,400. But I never received a 3rd stimulus. Will I still get my normal return or was I charged in my return for that
