I filed my 2018 taxes with TurboTax. Now, when I download the 2018 1040 from the site, the amount owed does not match the amount paid and amount on the IRS transcript.
Called TurboTax and they told me that
“supporting a permanent snap shot of 1040 tax returns at time of filing is not a feature of their product, if you want to know exactly what your 1040 looked like when you submit your returns you have to save your own copy at that point in time.”
What?? Does this sound right?? I didn’t save a copy when I filed since I assumed I would always have access online.
Does anyone know why this would happen and how it can be corrected??

There are different types of tax transcripts available from the IRS.
If you have a Tax Account Transcript, and there were changes made to your return by the IRS, or if you filed an amended return, then the transcript would not match what was in your TurboTax account. What is in your TurboTax account would only change if you made changes to your tax return in TurboTax.
I didn’t make any changes since I filed. And neither did the IRS. I spent an hour and a half on the phone with Turbo Tax today and what they ultimately told me is that they can make changes in their system and it essentially recalculates it based on those changes. This can all happen after you file. But they don’t notify you that this happens nor do they try to amend. So the 1040 that is available on the site now has the newly calculated numbers (not the amount of your original filing). And they (TurboTax) keep no record of the 1040 that you filed at the time of your original submission. So...unless you happened to download and save the 1040, it’s lost forever. TurboTax said the IRS transcript should be the official record. I’m sure that’s true, but not helpful when trying to get a mortgage and they need to crosscheck your 1040 with the amount you paid to the IRS. I’m absolutely shocked that TurboTax is aware of this gap and has not fixed it.
I too from 2018 had same problem. Mine however says I claimed funds for donations and I claimed a school tax none which are correct.
Turbo tax changed these things the I never claimed. I'm 53 have been filing my own taxes since I was 16 and back then this was manually done so I know very much how to file and understand. I have not filed with turbo tax some I found this out from a letter from irs stating my now ex husband and I owe $1700.00. This letter dated 2022. That's right... 4 yrs later im told this. My taxes last year which was only a total of $700 since I'm on long term disability so my days filing are done since non taxable income. They certainly took that $700 from me and the sent letter stated it went towards debt thank you for paying. To this day I have no clue how to fix this and my account still stands I owe $1700 not $1000.
And how my ex has been filing but has not been deducted as mine was.
But I blame turbo tax a trusted way to file.... So i thought.
In order to review the account and resolve it, you would need to contact the IRS by clicking here. As they can review where they applied the $700 and why your balance has not been updated. @Lauram618
