Where your refund goes depends on what you selected as your method to receive it. If you did not provide direct deposit information, you should expect a paper check. See our FAQ regarding entering the wrong direct deposit information which includes information about receiving a paper check. In order to see what you selected as your method to receive your refund follow the instructions below:

If you have already filed your return, you would:

  1. Log into your Turbo Tax online account.
  2. Click on "All My Returns" or "Download/Print Return (PDF).
  3. Select to open the PDF file.
  4. Search your return for "direct deposit" and tab down to veiw your direct deposit information submitted with your return.

If you have not filed your return, you would:

  1. Log into your Turbo Tax online account.
  2. Click "File" on the left tool bar.
  3. Follow the prompts until you get to the page with your direct deposit information.

Most Federal REFUNDS are issued within 21 business days of the return being accepted by the IRS (this is not based on when you filed).

Please keep in mind that once you e-file or mail your return only the IRS has any control over it.

The IRS will notify TurboTax when your return is accepted, there are no more updates given for the next 2 stages of Processing and Approval

You have to go to Where's my Refund to get any further information.

If you qualified for the Earned income credit or Additional Child Tax Credit here is more information about the PATH Act delay, but keep in mind that the IRS site for Where's my refund, https://www.irs.gov/refunds  is the final authority.

While most refunds are issued within 21 days of the return being accepted, not the date it was filed, sometimes there can be delays.

Please see the following information about contacting the IRS if it has been more than 21 days of acceptance:

Where was my refund  sent  to my address   or [address removed]

If the government mails your refund check, it will be sent to the current address they have on file for you.  This generally means whatever address you put on your current tax return.

What date we I get my refund.

@barksdale1981 The IRS expects to issue most refunds in less than 21 days after being accepted. Turbotax gives an estimated date based on the IRS's 21 day timeframe. So it all depends on the IRS and how fast your tax return moves along in the system. TurboTax does not receive any updates from the IRS.

To check the status of your refund go to IRS Where’s My Federal Refund? site for updates. Updates are made daily, usually overnight. You may also download the IRS2Go app to check your Federal refund status.

Where’s My Refund? has a tracker that displays progress through 3 stages:

(1) Return Accepted "Received," (2) Refund Approved and (3) Refund Sent.

When will I get my IRS tax refund?

No one here can know, but we can tell you how to check.

The IRS says 9 out of 10 filers who efile and choose direct deposit will get their Federal refunds within 21 days after being accepted. Some returns are processed fairly quickly, while others require additional processing due to specific items in the return. Some are pulled at random for more thorough investigation.

How did you file?  Did you efile, or did you choose to print and mail the return?  If you filed by mail, it can take about 6 weeks to get a Federal refund.

If you efiled, double-check to be sure the return was efiled successfully and accepted.
If you used Online TurboTax, you can sign into your Online Account and check the efile status at the Tax Home.

If that confirmed it was accepted, you can use the tool at the IRS website below to monitor the status of your Federal refund.
https://www.irs.gov/Refunds

NOTE: When using that tool, use only the Federal refund amount, and not any total refund amount that includes a state refund.
The amount to use is on your Federal Form 1040, Line 21a.

If the IRS tool says it is still being processed, and if it's been longer than 21 days, we can tell you how to speak to a live agent at the IRS to see if they can tell you anything about the delay.

I filed my taxes and they where accepted on Feb 4 2020 it is now March 14 2020 and go to IRS web site to check and they have no information about me filing my taxes. On turbo tax it gives me the amount of my refund but I put in all my information and no record. What is going on

@Amoody3 Are you sure the return was accepted?

When you e-file your federal return you will receive two emails from TurboTax.  The first one will say that your return was submitted.  The second email will tell you if your federal return was accepted or rejected.  If you e-filed a state return, there will be a third email to tell you if the state accepted or rejected your state return.

First, check your e-file status to see if your return was accepted:

https://turbotax.intuit.com/tax-tools/efile-status-lookup/

If the IRS accepted it, what does it say here?

https://www.irs.gov/refunds           Or does your account say “Ready to Mail?”

Note: If it says “Ready to Mail” or “Printed” that means YOU have to mail it yourself.  TurboTax does not mail your tax return for you.
