I have pre-existing I-Series bonds online at TreasuryDirect dot gov.
I would like to deposit my refund to my online account at TreasuryDirect, where it can be used to purchase another online I-Series bond, so I don't have to keep a piece of paper at home.
Is this currently possible? I know TurboTax can apply my refund to an I-Series bond that is mailed to me (i.e. a paper bond).

please add as an enhancement request— the IRS does support this option—it’s just that TurboTax can’t do it.

I am not clear on the answer. Is it possible to buy an I bond with my refund in electronic form at my existing treasury direct account?

Very unhelpful. You just repeated the reference to the same article that does not answer the question. Perhaps a human should read and respond to these posts.
The IRS only issues paper bonds for income tax refunds, but you can then convert them to your Treasury Direct account.
