Wondering how I need to file if I don't have any income this year?

If you have no income you cannot file a return, unless, you are married and your spouse has income, then you can file a joint return with your spouse.

My mother's sole source of income is Social Security and SSI, about $10,000/year. Does that still disqualify her from being my dependent?
