It goes in the retirement section, not wages.
Enter a 1099-R here:
Federal Taxes,
Wages & Income
(I'll choose what I work on - if that screen comes up)
Retirement Plans & Social Security,
IRA, 401(k), Pension Plan Withdrawals (1099-R).
OR Use the "Tools" menu (if online version left side) and then "Search Topics" for "1099-R" which will take you to the same place.
Be sure to choose which spouse the 1099-R is for if this is a joint tax return.
Be sure to pick the correct 1099-R type: Standard 1099-R, CSA-1099-R, CSF-1099-R, RRB-1099-R.
[NOTE: When you get to the "Your 1099-R Entries" screen where you can add another 1099-R, use "continue" to keep going as there are additional interview questions after that screen in most cases. You can always return as shown above.]Enter a 1099-R here:

Will the screen ever let me enter my 1099-R into the Wages & Income section?
The 1099-R does not go under wages, it goes in the retirement section.

Dear macuser_22,
I am using TT Premier Desktop-entered 4 1099-Rs for 1040SR Lines 5a and 5b. The rounded numbers for 5a are 24,000; 29,041; 3,606; and 64,781which comes out ok at 121,428. The rounded numbers for 5b are 24,000; 29,041; 3,606; and 64,454 which my spreadsheet says is 120,101. My version of Turbotax is showing 120,801 for that value in the worksheet and the 1040SR. I have been searching for an input or math error on my part, but I have not been able to find it. Several times, I have checked the inputs on my spreadsheet, including the relatively simple formula, and the possibility of input errors on the relevant Turbotax pages. Also, I have not seen any extra inputs that would cause a lower figure. Since the first three numbers to add are the same and the fourth varies by 327, I think something else has to be going on to have the columns add up with a difference of 1,327 rather than 327.
At this point, I have run out of things to check and doing the same checks has diminishing returns if unsuccessful. So, I am asking, is there anything else that I can do to figure out what is going on?
The 5b values you included in your question (24,000, 29,041, 3,606, and 64,454) when added equal 121,101. Your spreadsheet reflects the amount as 120,101, one thousand less. It is not clear why the worksheet is showing the total amount to be 120,801, but can you confirm that the amounts on your worksheet are the same as the amounts on line 5b.
Thanks for the quick reply.
Worksheet for 1040 and U.S. 1040 both show 120,801. I realize now that is a difference of 300. I ran through my entries for the 1099s again, but did not see any errors. My spreadsheet gets 121,101 also.
Found my error. I ran through the entries again and found it.
Thank you for your patient reply. With your assistance, this problem is resolved.
My 1099-R is not from a retirement account, it came from an ESOP Payout and the taxes were paid at the time of payout. It is penalizing me again because it lists as a retirement distribution in this section when it should be listed as income.
I have a 1099 R that I need to include in a Trust tax return. Where should I put such income?
I have 1 2023 Form 1099-R and also 1099-INT I seem to be mixed up trying to enter both of these right can you help me
