By
your screen name above it says online "Deluxe Edition." If you are in online Deluxe
Edition, that is a paid edition. In Deluxe, the preparation fee is
59.99 for a Federal return and 39.99 for a State return. And an
additional 39.99 service fee if you choose to pay the fees out of the
Federal refund (44.99 for California.)
So a fee of 99.98 could be either for a Federal and State return preparation, or it could be for a Federal return preparation and then choosing to pay that out of the Federal refund.
If you chose the option to pay your fees out of the Federal refund, we can tell you how to remove that option then pay upfront with a credit/debit card or a prepaid debit card you can buy in a store for a few bucks.
Do you need Deluxe because
of a situation in your return, such as Form 1040, itemized deductions,
HSA, foreign earned income, additional tax/penalty for an early
distribution from a retirement plan, etc.?
