Do you have a TurboTax Online account?

We'll help you get started or pick up where you left off.

Why is the amount I am seeing as "Federal due" about $300 more the amount entered for what TurboTax will be submitting to the IRS? Where is the $300 going?

I only noticed this discrepancy when I was reviewing the final document that would be submitted. I am using the free version so in theory it should be free and not 300 that goes to TurboTax. Or is this how it works?

Is is for state?  At the end Turbo Tax just shows you the net federal and state combined. But that is only for your info. You will still get the full refund and need to pay a tax due. Exactly where are you seeing the amounts?  The federal tax due is on 1040 line 37.  Oh could it be a penalty on line 38?

Back up on this one.

When you are in the File section of the program on Step 1 is where you are shown the TurboTax account fees, if any.   If there are no fees shown, you do not have anything to pay for TurboTax.  Continuing on to Step 2 is where you either have a tax refund or you have taxes owed.  If you have taxes owed then you have to select how you want to pay the taxes owed.

Click on File on the left side of the screen.

What is shown in Step 1?

What is shown in Step 2?
