Why is my verification code not working? 3 attemps

The 6 digit verification code is not working for me. I have made 3 attempts and I immediately open a new browser, get the code, and type it into the box and it still says "expired or incorrect"

You Must leave the original browser window open where you requested the verification code. 

Open a New window to access your email account for the code that was sent. 

On the original window, enter the code.
