Why does turbotax delete old questions?

How can I merge my accounts into one?  I'm going on three years now trying to merge all my accounts into one.  When will we have the technology to do this?  Do I really need to make a new account every year?  Why has turbotax deleted my same question from last year?

It's a good question.......  Wish they could fix this so everything was kept in one place and I wouldn't get confused commenting on my own posts.

TTax does not allow multiple accounts to be combined into one account (or to split a single account into multiple accounts).

TTax does not permit an account to be closed.  Your only option is to make sure you pick one account and use it all of the time.  You cannot delete any return per se, however you can manually delete all of the information in a return, and simply abandon that login ID .

You will have to manually add the information from one account to the account you have chosen to retain.  Generally it is better to pick the more complicated account and manually add the information from the other account.

The IRS does not care whose name appears first.  However, once you select which name is the 'Taxpayer' and which is the 'Spouse' the IRS wants you to keep the same sequence year after year.

In order to access your information from previous year(s), you must sign in using the exact same User ID and password.

Perhaps you have an additional account that you forgot about.

Sorry, but if you have multiple accounts, you cannot merge or delete them.  I'm a fellow user, but I don't know of any plans to make that possible.

No, you do not have to make a new account each year.   In fact you shouldn't create new ones.    You just need to keep using the same one instead of starting yet another one.    If you don't find it right away, when you return each year, we can tell you the way to find and regain access to the account.

There is no ability to combine accounts or information if you are trying to combine information from the IRS free version of turbo tax and any other version of turbo tax.  That includes free version from turbotax or paid versions.

Why does turbotax delete old questions?

I've commented on this thread with three different accounts.  I'm unable to combine any of them.  Last year this was affirmed by turbotax help in a similar thread.  It has since been deleted.  I spent hours on the phone with them last year trying to reconcile the situation and the associates were just as confused as I was.

It had to do with me using a free version of turbo tax from the IRS website that is only accessible if you make less than a certain amount annually.
