Did you file separate federal returns ?
If I am filing a separate return why do I have to list my spouse’s information on my return?
Even if you file separate returns (the worst way to file) you each have to list each other's SSN's and some other information on your own tax return. The IRS can then cross check to make sure you are not "double dipping" for itemized deductions, dependents, etc.
If you are in a community property state, there is more information that will be needed.
Community property states: AZ, CA, ID, LA, NV, NM, TX, WA, WI

We file separately due to student loan payments (so it's not always "the worst way to file").
If it was only to verify identity, I'm sure they would ask my husband for my AGI when he does his taxes too, which they never have.
I think I figured out why it only asks me for my husbands AGI and not vise versa. The questions are to see if I qualify for a tax credit for households that make under $38,000 a year since my income is under that they ask for my husbands income, but my husbands income alone is more than that so on his taxes he already doesn't qualify just based on his income so they don't bother asking for my AGI.
