This worksheet is for my son. Not me. however the account has my email address on it. Is that the problem?
If you have already filed, you can't delete anything until the IRS accepts or rejects the return. Is your son a dependent on your tax return or is he filing his own tax return? Are you using TurboTax Online (each return has to have its own account) or the desktop software? And have you already submitted your return(s)? @bethorourke5
He is filing on his own. I was just assisting him with the program.
I guess I didn't know why it accepted the payment for both the federal and state and then sent him back to input his email on his state return and to input the stimulus money he received, but won't accept the fixes.
You're saying he has to wait until both are reviewed( state and federal) to determine if he needs to do an amendment?
It never let us get to the point that he sent it to be reviewed.
When you open your son's return in TurboTax, does the return show ''pending''? If you have already submitted the return, it will show pending and you will need to wait to see if his return is accepted or rejected.
If the return does not show pending, you have not filed yet and can edit the stimulus questions. Go to the search bar up top and type in stimulus (make sure you are all the way inside of your return or search does not function), hit enter, and then use the Jump to stimulus link to be taken to the questions. You will enter 2 amounts. It is important that you enter the amount you received for the first payment in the 1st box and the amount you received for the 2nd payment in the 2nd box. Because the amounts paid out were different, if you transpose these 2 numbers, you may generate a recovery rebate that you are not qualified for or forego claiming one that you do qualify for. Anytime you need to get back to that section, searching stimulus is the way to do it. @bethorourke5
I have done all my due diligence. I installed Microsoft Edge, logged in, deleted my filing, logged out, deleted all my categories of browser data, closed Edge, opened Edge, logged in, redid the return from scratch, review federal (didn't have state income) with all green, You're good to go! Ready to file with a giant green circle, Just three more steps and we'll file Step 1 review your order review the products you used, same message. Also, I did my paid version filing last year on the Brave browser.
@A spooky error This is a common error when there are forms that may be unavailable that you need to file your taxes. See the forms availability chart here:
IRS forms availability table for TurboTax individual (personal) tax products
IRS forms availability table for TurboTax Business
I was able to pass the step when I logged in today, without modifying anything on my original 3rd party browser. I give my experience a 6/10
If the Recovery Rebate Credit worksheet isn't letting you continue, you may need to clear your cache.
Your browser stores recently visited webpages as temporary files in a cache, which enables the pages to load more quickly when revisited.
However, a full or corrupted cache can cause problems in TurboTax, so sometimes you need to clear your cache (that is, remove these temporary files).
Here are the official instructions for the most popular browsers:
Apple's official support site doesn't appear to contain instructions for clearing the cache in Safari. Your best bet is to search the Internet for clear Safari cache or similar search terms.
If your cache isn't the issue, it might be best to delete it and start again.
To get to the Recovery Rebate Credit section of your return, use the Search function and type in “stimulus”. You will see a “jump to” link at the top of the search results. By selecting this option, you can get to the Recovery Rebate Credit section quickly.
Here's a TurboTax article that explains the Recovery Rebate Credit.
Thank you for the reply.
My family received the full amount. Why is it making me do the worksheet at all?
@GeDoMack The IRS is paying stimulus missed so it has to ask the correct questions to make sure you received your full amount. You know you got it all, you just have to convince the program now.
Did you ever get this problem resolved? I am having the same one; and when I go ahead and put the numbers in that it's asking for, it about doubles my refund! And I KNOW that that is wrong! Does anyone know how to just bypass this?????
I deleted the worksheet but I'm having the same problem; if it matters, I am using Turbotax Desktop Home & Business. I am not getting the dialog that you are describing. I don't see anything about Recovery Rebate Credit until the Federal Review section, and it forces me to enter the amounts of my economic stimulus payments (in my case $83 and then nothing on the second one - these based on my income), then it asks for the amount of my self-employment income from the start of Covid in March through the end of the year. Then it practically doubles my refund, and I know that this is wrong. Isn't there a way to just tell Turbotax I don't want to apply for the credit???
Yes there is a way you can report this if you don't want the credit.
Never mind! The IRS, on February 5, just clarified that if one’s original Economic Impact payment was less than the max amount because it was based on a 2019 or 2018 tax return, and if your income went DOWN in 2020, they will now make up the difference! NOW they tell me!! 😁
