Why can't I finish my federal tax filing on turbotax Free edition due to a Schedule 1?

Tax forms were changed this year, adding complexity that didn't exist in prior years. If your return has certain income additions or deductions from income, your return requires Schedule 1, which is available in TurboTax Deluxe, and is not available in TurboTax Free.
