Maybe you are waiting for some forms. Click Review to see if you are missing some forms needed in order to e-file.
Many federal and state forms are not yet available. Check here for form availability. The dates are subject to change.
No hurry to e-file since the IRS will not begin to accept/reject 2023 e-files until January 29. And….a state return cannot be accepted until after the IRS accepts your federal return.
Thank you for the advice. All of the forms on my return are available for efile. I went down the list of every form here. It is still showing that I have to paper file. Maybe I need to delete the return and start over again.
I am having this same issue. Nothing is really different this year as opposed to the last several returns and this is the first time I have had a problem. I haven't yet checked every form to see if they are able to be filed. I guess I will check that next. I am wondering if it is some sort of software issue or bug. I was also considering deleting my return and redoing it, but if I do that and still have the same issue, I will be pretty irritated.
The availability tool will also note if a form is not eligible for efiling which would mean that you will need to paper file. This is very unusual so if I were you I would wait for a couple of weeks when all the updates are in place ... that may change things for you. The IRS will not start processing returns until 1/29 and 2/15 if you have any ACTC or EIC on the return.
