TurboTax does not charge an e-filing fee. You are charged a tax preparation service fee.

If you are being charged to file using the Free Edition, you may want to review your fees, as the Free Edition is for simple returns that file a 1040 with no additional schedules.

Why do I have to pay for the "Free edition" of turbotax? I had to add a 1095A because you failed to have it available until now(after saying you dont need it this year)... so I have to amend my return. Now I have to pay 39.99 to file my taxes??

IRS form 1095-A used to prepare IRS form 8962 is supported in versions Deluxe and above.  Please see the comparison here with the heading Other Tax Forms and Schedules down the left side of the page.

If you received a letter from the IRS, you may not have to amend your tax return to file IRS form 8962.  See here.

Here is how you complete IRS form 8962.  

• Log into your return
• Select that you want to Add a state - this lets you into the program without the amend process starting.
• In the top right corner, locate the Magnifying glass/Search. 
• Enter the exact words 1095a.
• Select the first entry Jump to 1095a.
• Fill in the 1095a information.
• Print out IRS form 8962.
