If you want the IRS to credit your account, pay the money to the IRS.
Hi, this doesn't answer the question - if you do not have the answer than ignore the question.
Turbotax allows you to pay your taxes with a credit card. You are paying the IRS for your taxes, that is obvious. Because you are putting the cc info on intuit's software, does the payment go on your card to Intuit, or to the IRS or some other payee (which would invalidate the cashback to my cc).
When you owe taxes to the IRS, Turbotax/Intuit does not act as a middleman in that transaction. There are no exceptions. If you are entering your payment information on your tax return I don't see anywhere on the 1040 form for credit card information. Only bank and routing information.
Maybe it's your online TurboTax fees that you are paying? Those would be paid directly to Intuit.
One thing you can do for paying any taxes you owe the IRS, is to select the option to indicate you are paying by check. Then you can go online to www.irs.gov/payments and pay your taxes directly to the IRS with a credit card.
Make ABSOLUTELY CERTAIN you read every single word on every single screen at the irs website as you work it through. If you pay taxes for the wrong thing or wrong year, you'll find yourself in a never-ending nightmare with the IRS trying to make it right.
