Where to find modified adjusted gross income less exemptions?

MAGI (Modified Adjusted Gross Income) is not a specific line on your Form 1040. Instead, it's a calculation based on your AGI (Adjusted Gross Income) with certain deductions added back. Here's how you can calculate it:

  1. Start with your AGI: This is found on line 11 of Form 1040.
  2. Add back specific deductions:
    • IRA contributions
    • Student loan interest – Form 1040, Schedule 1, line 21
    • Foreign earned income and housing exclusions - Form 2555, line 45
    • Foreign housing deduction or income exclusion - Form 2555, line 50
    • Savings bond interest excluded from your income - Form 8815, line 14
    • Adoption benefits excluded from your income - Form 8839, line 28

So, the formula looks like this:

MAGI=AGI (Line 11 of Form 1040)+Add-backs
