If you are computed your taxes using TurboTax and also computed your taxes manually (or in a different manner) and got different results, this is how I suggest you reconcile the difference(s).
1) Check each and every entry in both methods to ensure they match. You can do this by starting with your Form 1040 and work down to the details behind the entries that do not match.
2) This should identify where your differences lie.
3) Make the needed adjustments.
4) If your non-TurboTax calculations were done manually, double check your Adjusted Gross Income, Taxable Income, Total Tax, and Total payments. This should quickly identify where the difference lies. It is possible that you incorrectly looked-up the Tax in the tax tables.
Good luck.
I am assuming you mean your tax calculation, but if you mean something else, let me know. The tax calculation can be found on the worksheet titled Form 1040/1040SR Wks. The tax computation is on the Tax Smart Worksheet that is located between Line 15 and Line 16. If A1 is checked, your tax liability came from the tax tables. But if any other line has a checkmark, you will have to go to the corresponding worksheet to see the tax calculation.
Some income is taxed at different rates (Qualified Dividends/Long-Term Capital Gains are taxed at a lower rate than ordinary income). If you have any of the following included in your return, the tax table doesn't give you accurate results:
In this example, the taxpayer has to view the Qualified Dividends and Capital Gain Tax Worksheet to see how their tax was calculated.
