where in turbotax do I enter the interest paid to me (I am the lender on a loan)

I loaned my son $ to buy a house this year.  All done with a lawyer,  charging interest.  I am generating the 1098 form  and he will enter the interest paid as an expense (easy) -  but I don't know where to enter the interest he paid me as earning/income in turbotax.    All i see is different 1099s.

not sure what version of TT you're using but it would be entered using a 1099-INT

federal taxes

wages and income

interest and dividends

interest on 1099-int (this may not be true but this is what to use) click on update

add interest income

I'll type in myself

or after opening return on the right at the top there may be a link for show topic list click here

them there should be a list click on interest income

then proceed to add

Yes, Mike 9241 is correct about how to enter the interest.

The following shows the steps used to enter the interest without a 1099-INT from the 1098.

  • Click Federal Taxes
  • Click Wages & Income
  • Scroll down to Interest & Dividends
  • Click Start next to Interest from Seller-Financed Loans
  • Answer Yes to Did you receive interest payments from a seller-financed mortgage?
  • Proceed through the rest of the interview to enter your mortgage interest.
