To report your Tax exempt interest:

  1. Open your return.
  2. Go to Federal
  3. Go to Income and expenses
  4. Scroll down to Investments and Savings
  5. Select  Start or Revisit to the right of Dividends on 1099-DIV
  6. Select  Yes on the Did you receive any investment income? screen, then select Continue
    • If you see either the Your investments & savings or Here's your 1099-DIV info screen, select Add investments or Add another 1099-DIV as appropriate, then select Continue
  7. On the screen Let's get the info from your 1099-DIV
  8. Select the box My form has info in other boxes (this is uncommon).
  9. Scroll down to enter Exempt-interest dividends

Those $$ should show up in the correct form, on whatever tax documents the brokerage or Fund company sent you.
