Where do I find the turbotax I need?

I filled out all the information for my 1040 day job and my 1120s (s-corp) and it’s prompting me to file via turbotax premier. A quick google search tells me that working a day job and owning an s-corp that the premier isn’t the right choice and that turbotax business is in fact what I need. This is correct, right? I need turbotax business but it won’t let me chose turbotax business via the app on my phone… although it will allow me to file via turbotax premier somehow? Doesn’t make any sense but premier did cover the k-1, 1120s, 1040 and stuff I would need for an s-corp. Need some guidance.

The TurboTax Premium online edition can be used for your personal tax return and for entry of the Schedule K-1 from the S Corporation.

The TurboTax Business Edition is used to complete and file a Form 1120-S for an S Corporation.  The Business Edition can only be installed on a Windows based personal computer, not on a Mac or online.  The Business Edition cannot complete a personal tax return, Form 1040.

To clarify, this is a digital download off the turbotax site? I clicked around and Mac was an option besides windows… is this some sort of error or something new?

If you were checking the TurboTax personal editions, which Home & Business is one, then those programs can be installed on either a Windows or Mac personal computer.

So I need turbotax business just for the s-corp and then could I use the free turbotax for the 1040 or do I need premier? I’m understanding there’s no one program for both of them, you need two programs. Just trying to do it right and keep my expenses down.

Yes, you will need two programs.  One for the S-Corp and one for your personal tax return.

For your personal tax return you have two choices.  You can use either the TurboTax online Premium edition or you can use any of the TurboTax desktop edition which install on either a Window or Mac personal computer.

I would recommend the desktop editions since if you choose the Deluxe edition or higher you receive one free state tax program download.  You also receive 5 free federal tax return e-files.  And you have direct access to all forms, schedules and worksheets using Forms mode.  However, there is a $25 state e-file fee but that can be avoided by printing and mailing the state tax return.

So the 1040 using premium w/ state is $138.24 total and a desktop version is $75.60 for the deluxe version I can submit the state through the mail to avoid costs. When it comes to business, my only choice is using Business for $194.90. So yeah, looks like I’ll be getting deluxe and business for a total of $270.50… I’ll have to go buy a mini pc to download all of these. Do you recommend I buy these in a store like Walmart or just do the digital download on the turbo tax site?

The choice is yours on where to buy, however it is cheaper if purchased from one of the TurboTax authorized resellers -
