To enter, change or delete a refund from the prior year applied to this years taxes (Federal, State, Local) -

Click on Federal Taxes (Personal using Home and Business)
Click on Deductions and Credits
Click on I'll choose what I work on (if shown)
Scroll down to Estimates and Other Taxes Paid
On Income Taxes Paid, click on the start or update button

On the next screen select the options under 2022 Refund Applied to 2023

Or enter refund applied to this year in the Search box located in the upper right of the program screen. Click on Jump to refund applied to this year

The prior year federal tax refund amount applied is shown on Form 1040 Line 26

To enter your 2022 refund applied to 2023, you will select the following:

  1. Federal
  2. Deductions and Credits
  3. Other Income Taxes under Estimates and Other Taxes Paid
  4. Start next to 2022 refund applied to 2023 federal taxes

If you used TurboTax last year, this number may already be entered for you.  You can also look at line 26 of your 1040 to see if it is there prior to entering it.

On the menu bar on the left that shows.

  1. Select Tax Tools
  2. On the drop-down select Tools
  3. On the pop-up menu
  4. Select View Tax Summary
  5. On the left sidebar, select Preview my 1040

If you are using the Desktop version, you can just switch to forms mode.
