When will Turbo tax be updated to allow electronic filing after April 15th, 2020 (for the 2019 tax year)?

As we are still in the filing season and as the due date is now July 15th, updates are being made to ensure you can file your return when you are ready.

The IRS made the change March 20th. It's March 24th and Turbotax still will not let you set a direct debit date past April 15th.

And you know that the IRS has changed all of their systems to accept tax returns filed after April 15 and accept payments for taxes owed after April 15 and on or before July 15, 2020 with out penalty, how?

TurboTax will update the software when the IRS has approved and updated their systems to accept from tax returns with dates after April 15, 2020 and on or before July 15, 2020.  The TurboTax software across all desktop and online editions, to include all personal, professional and business program will be released as soon as possible.

To circumvent the April 15th deadline still listed in TurboTax programs (both online and the desktop versions), select "I will send a check by mail" when asked how you want to pay. 

Then, you can go to irs.gov/payments to set up payments or you can wait until the day you are ready to pay to visit the site. 

Whatever you decide, you can select "I will send payment by mail" and then visit the irs.gov website to pay what you owe without penalty or late fees if you pay before July 15, 2020. 

The choice will also allow you to e-file your return now and pay later.
