When will the 2021 8915-f form be available on Turbo Tax to efile?

Unfortunately we don't have much of a choice but to wait on the TurboTax team to get the form updated in the software. Yes the form is no longer in draft mode on the IRS site but if you fill out the form you would have to mail in the return and wait for them to process which is anyone's guess as to how long that will take for them to process it. I'm looking at the instructions for the form it appears to be somewhat confusing so that may be a big part of the delay that TurboTax currently has. I know that H&R block is having the same problem and I would imagine that most of the other online tax software companies are going to be having the same issues. The current date for TurboTax release of that form is March 24th, which I hope is going to end up being sooner than that.

@JRmamacat  It’s not complicated and freetaxusa has the form ready. They ask a few questions about the distribution and then ask what you entered on last years 8915 E. Simple. TurboTax just sucks balls and are lazy. @EbonyA

@JRmamacat  You don’t have to mail it. I just efiled and it was accepted 20 minutes later. Stop waiting on incompetent staff at TurboTax and go elsewhere. @EbonyA

I agree with you, it should be easy and not like they didn't know it was needed. The larger corporations tend to not give a darn about the users needs. I can't imagine any reason they would intentionally delay the release. But maybe there is something that is a conflict within their program. Carryover data is usually confined to the more expensive version but they have to make this available on the basic.

@JRmamacat _ you are right.  Of course it's not intentional.  It's just lower priority than other stuff.  Most people in this boat OWE taxes so what's the rush?  FAFSA doesn't need a return.

I trust they are serving their clients in the priority order that helps the most people, and therefore makes them the most money.  When you are an outlier, sometimes you have to sit on the sidelines a little longer than you want.

@Anonymous  Nope, just filed elsewhere and I’m getting 10k back. And that’s after paying my taxes on this second 1/3 of the distribution. I need the money to pay for the vacation I booked and used a credit card. Every day turbotax did nothing was just another day of interest. I usually get my refund the first week of February. Waiting for over a month and a half after the IRS finalized the form is just ridiculous. Next time my boss asks me to do something, I will make sure I tell him it won’t be don’t until 3/24, but be sure to check back daily 🤣

Something fishy is going on with TurboTax and the Block on this form. If they are programming the form to have a complete interview associated with it, the delay could be justifiable...! However, I doubt they are doing that...!

The simplest thing they can do is to convert and integrate the PDF of 8915-F form from IRS to their proprietary data file (tax file) format which is not difficult at all, and then make the form available to manually fill out within the software by customers... Customers can then fill the form and efile their return online...! By now I believe everyone knows how to fill this form manually...!

I tried HR BLOCK and TAXACT windows cd version and couldn’t Efile either one said I had to print out and mail return. Because COVID-19 form not ready yet. Is online version ready yet?

If you think there are complaints here now, wait until everybody sees "amount you owe" on 1040 instead of refund, because your tax is going to go up.

@Kent Z  Unless new legislation is passed, personal income taxes absolutely will go up when the Trump Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017 expires in 2025.

what I meant was, if you are reporting 1/3 of your distribution this year, that is a taxable amount on your 2021 tax return and that will raise your tax higher than usual!

Not Everybody owe taxes for 2021...! I would say 50% of those who claimed coronavirus disaster in 2020... But definitely more than 2020...!
