Congratulations! I explored other tax application options, as well. Great to hear of your success with HRBlock. I'll definitely be switching over next year. Turbo Tax has lost, or will lose, a lot of loyal long termed customers over this I'm sure.

This is ridiculous. This form is available and the date continues to be pushed back. Why? Many of us are anxious to file and have already paid turbo tax. We won't be using turbo tax again if this isn't rectified asap. I will also put a stop payment on my card and just go elsewhere for this year too.
That is really not the answer people want though. And I checked that link on my phone and can’t see the form in question…not sure if that is an issue viewing on my phone though.
its a simple question - why the 3 week delay with constant push out…HR have it available/IRS have it available, I’ve already paid and can’t file now…this is really nuts and frustrating.
I am right there with you all....I have been using Turbo Tax for over 20 years. Did not like that they made me pay and THEN told me the form was not ready and would be on 2/6....and then move it out to 2/13....shady tactics there, especially when other companies are cheaper and ready to file.
This needs to be quick to fix or I will dispute charge and go with another company.
Everyone that is getting this message from turbo tax that form 8283 won't be finalized until 2/13/25: switch to HR Block. There was no issue filing with them. My return was accepted this morning
How did you handle charitable donations? I use ItsDeductible and gave 10 PDF pages of 2024 donations. I couldn’t find a way in HR Block to just put “various” and attach a PDF breakdown. Also couldn’t find a way to export from ItsDeductible to Excel.
I have the same issue. I've been using TurboTax for several years. I actually paid and thought my forms would be processed 2/2/2025 but then the error came up that indicated that the filing could not be finalized because the form was not yet approved by the IRS. I will definately reconsider using TT next year and make sure there are no issues first. Don't appreciate there being a problem that is not communicated until after they have been paid for said service!
That information should have been provided by TurboTax prior to payment for services expecting that the return would be filed. Your information is not only unhelpful, it is misleading.
This link would be a lot more helpful if it didn’t change every few days.
For moving to HR, is it on the web, a download, etc.?
Do they itemize each donation like TT seemingly used to (x amount of shoes, x amount per charity, x amount of shirts, etc.)? How easy is that process and does HR ask for anything aside from the usual name of place, address, etc.? How much did it end up costing, if you don't mind me asking?
This is a downright lie. Unsure why they are doing this, what do they have to gain. I have used TT since the early 90's. My wife is a tax accountant and 8283 was released from the IRS to all tax software programs, including the one there firm uses on 1/30/25 in a release. I guess it is time to move from them as this has been an issue with them the last 3-4 years. We will never get them to make changes, but our $$ will affect them going forward.
I had to enter them in one at a time which was a pain but I figured it was better than waiting for turbo tax to keep pushing the date out
They do itemize the deductions and you can either have them value it or you can do it yourself. The only part that was a pain was for each donation you have to put in the address and the ID # of the charity, which you can find online. I downloaded the app and was able to upload my tax return from turbo tax from last year to get all of my info added to the system. The total was around $150 but I have self employment plus my regular job and I itemized my deductions. It would have been cheaper for a more simple return. The whole process only took about an hour and a half and i did the whole thing on my phone.
Several replies on this thread have stated that this form is unchanged for 2024, and/or the current version is available from irs.gov. However, as of this moment, only the 2023 version is available from irs.gov. There is a new 2024 version available from the IRS, but it's still in draft form so can't be used for filing:
www.irs.gov/draft-tax-forms?find=8283
I spent a minute or two comparing the 2023 and draft 2024 versions side by side, and don't see any differences aside from the year printed on the form. Even so, this could explain why TT hasn't declared that the form has been finalized. It seems like it really hasn't been. And although no one seems to be expecting any surprise changes on the finalized 2024 version, it doesn't seem unreasonable for TT to wait until it's official. In fact, if there are no further changes coming, why has the IRS waited over a month without finalizing the draft form?
I know it's frustrating. I'm waiting on this too.
SSEL,
There's no changes to the form. The change is in the rule about charitable donations can't exceed 30% of your AGI. The form is available and in use in other tax software programs. The biggest issue is that TT has now revised the "expected ready for filing" date for this form AT LEAST 5 times. I know many people were caught unaware and paid and are now aggravated. TT may have made some changes because I knew it wasn't available before paying (and thus haven't paid yet, considering other options).
