The deadline to file for an automatic extension was April 18, 2023 (the original tax deadline.) That extension provides until October 16, 2023 to file your 2022 tax returns.
If you did not file your extension request, don't panic. The IRS will still accept your tax return, even if you did not request the extension. If you are getting a refund, there won't be a penalty for filing after the April deadline. If you do owe taxes for 2022, the sooner you get your return filed, the better. Penalties and interest are assessed for both not filing and not paying on time.
