What is purpose of send tax file to agent? I was exploring the idea thinking I could forward it to my son and it indicated sent to agent. Where may it have gone?

It didn't actually send anything anywhere. The option to "send tax file to an agent" is for over the phone diagnostics with a TurboTax agent. It generates a copy of your return with no personal information, only numbers so that we can troubleshoot in depth and check for calculation issues.

It is not so that we can "proof" your return for errors, and even if you send a copy, agents need a code only you can provide to open the "sanitized" copy. Your information is secure and has not been sent or opened by anyone.

You mentioned you were trying to forward to your son.
Also be aware that you should not send tax files and other sensitive documents in email.  Regular email is not a secure mode of transmission.  Tax files are full of personal ID info and financial info.  It's the same reason that banks won't email you statements and other sensitive documents, etc.

Thanks.

I understand what you are saying in the reply, but the wording isn't quite right I think.  You mention "It didn't actually send anything anywhere.".  Well, if not, what's the purpose?  It had to have "gone somewhere".

I tried for the heck of it just now, and unchecked the box that said "Send to myself".  I was expecting to see on the next screen an email address prompt.  But nothing.  So then I checked my directory that the TT file was originally in.  Nothing.   Then I checked  So it must have 'gone somewhere' in the blogosphere?  Back to Intuit?  What do they do if out of the blue,  this sanitized copy gets sent to them?  I don't have any followup need to discuss this with anyone.  Actually, I'd like them to delete it if indeed it got to them somehow.

If you send a copy to an agent it is a sanitized file for troubleshooting.  It will give you a 6 digit code number to post here in the forum so an employee can look at it.  Didn't know there was a selection to send to myself.
