What happened to FREE

The TT online still has a free version just like they always have  :   https://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-taxes/online/

If you used the IRS FREE FILE TT option last year then when you log in this year the first thing you see is the notice about TurboTax will not be participating in the IRS Free File program for 2021 returns.   You  are then  given the option to try one of the other FREE FILE alliance options or continue with the TT FREE program.  If you stay with TT then your next option is to transfer the prior year data ... read the screens carefully.

Be aware that  the online TurboTax Free Edition is very limited to only simple returns--so be careful----if your return requires any of the schedules or extra forms then an upgrade to a paid version will be required.   https://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-taxes/online/

There are still eight various software providers who will participate in the Free File program but they will not be available until sometime in January----so if you want to use one of them---WAIT.

Use this IRS site for other ways to file for free  when the program opens in January

Your screen name suggests that you may have a business.  If so, Free is not applicable to your situation.

100% Free Tax Filing for Simple Returns Only | TurboTax® Free Edition (intuit.com)

What happened to FREE

TurboTax still has the Free Edition----but it is only for very simple returns.

https://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-taxes/online/free-edition.jsp

The information that you can enter in Free Edition is pretty limited now.  Thanks to the new tax laws that began for 2018 returns, there are no more simple Form 1040EZ or 1040A's.  Everything goes on a Form 1040 that has three extra "schedules" with it, and if you need any of those schedules, you are not able to use the Free Edition.  Using the standard deduction instead of itemizing does NOT mean you will not need any of those schedules.

TurboTax is NOT participating in the IRS Free File program any more, but there are still 8 other software versions that will be available later in January on the IRS site---so you might want to wait for that.
