What does it mean to say "Sch SE-T Max deferral line 18 must be entered"?

Try this:

  1. Go back to the Federal deductions
  2. scroll down to covid SE deferral
  3. answer that you want to defer, same as before
  4. then if you don't want to, enter zero for the income just to make the program work, continue
  5. then go away and come back and say you do not want to defer

It's May 4th.  The bug is still in it.

OK, figured it out, total income reported on line 3 let's say $1,500, subtract what you made January almost to the end of March.  Enter that number in line 18.  Now if you want to defer follow the steps in Turbo Tax.  If not just continue.  Hours trying to figure out the instructions, or even download them because Turbo Tax says sch SE-T.  When in reality it's just sch SE.

Hopefully it will be fixed for 2021 taxes.  Close to retirement though.  I wish it would print out reminders to pay your deferrals.  I should look at my IRS.gov account and see what it says.

Same here.  No deferral necessary.  I simply changed put a "0" in the field in question and re-ran the report and it worked fine.   So wow, Intuit can't be bothered to fix this error?   I have been using TurboTax since it was a DOS program back in 1988 !

Here is a Quick Fix that works:

Look at Schedule SE Line 3 amount.  Multiply that amount times 0.765 and that is the amount you will enter on line 18.

Why 0.765.  Well,  March 27 to December 31 is 280 days.  You will divide the 280 days by 366 days because there was a leap year in 2020 was a leap year.

For example, if $10,000 appears on line 3 of Sch SE, then multiply $10,000 by  0.765.  That equals $7650. You enter $7650 on line 18.
