What do I do when I get a blank activation screen with turbotax 2020?

Hi Bill1940

After resolving my 2021 blank activation screen, I asked the TT support person to assist downloading the 2020 program.  I had the 2020 cd but had failed to save the license code.  After answering several security questions, the TT support person provided my 2020 license code and I was able to download and install 2020.  TT support should be able to allow you another download.  The first level of support was unable to resolve my blank activation screen problem and turned me over to a technical support person who knew exactly what to do.  If need be ask for technical support if the first level support cannot help you.

This problem exists for activation pop-up window as well as Itsdeductible login popup.

I find it very disturbing that a software company with millions of customers can not fix something like this promptly and properly. How many customer support hours have been already wasted on this? How many bad reviews? Is anybody listening? We, the customers are paying for all this! Shame on you Intuit. Your half baked solutions may be good for a few days but people will not put up with this forever. For the number of updates we have to endure after installing the software, you should have been be able to fix this long time ago.

First thing I will do next year before getting new version of Turbotax, I will check if this is issue solved. If not - bye bye Turbotax, you are not the only option.

Thank you! Thank you!  I had the same issues and was able to use your tip to blindly enter and then choose activate. I can't believe Intuit isn't doing something about this!

You're very welcome!

I can't understand their thinking on this either!

Why does TT need the license code a second time when you launch the TT program.  The license code from the download enter should be stored within the program and available if needed.

It seems redundant to have to enter the license code a second time. TT failure to fix this when it was a known problem in 2020

is ridiculous!

It "should" remember the code based on your system configuration.   Most people only have to enter it once.   But your problem is a fairly common one here in the forum.  TurboTax must use a suboptimal method of "fingerprinting" a system configuration.

If you used the code a second time, then that likely used up 2 of your 5 activations.  TurboTax might have thought your system configuration had changed.  Frequently this can be due to a USB device that was either present or absent when you originally installed the program.    For instance, if you now have a USB storage/thumb drive that wasn't there when you installed it, it may see that as a system change.   Or if you had one during installation, but have now removed it, etc.   Or if a USB device such as a printer was present and turned on during installation, but is now turned off, or vice versa.

I once forgot I had a USB thumb drive inserted and got the reactivation screen.   So I aborted and backed out without using another activation code, and removed the USB drive.   Then I re-launched TurboTax successfully without being asked for the code.

I believe I saw another thread where a Windows user said he got around it by running TurboTax as an administrator; i.e., launching the program by right-clicking the TurboTax desktop icon and in the popup choosing "run as administrator."

Do you have more than one Windows user accounts?  If so, could you have installed TurboTax on one Windows user account, and now you are trying to launch TurboTax and access it on the other Windows user account?

Ok! Are you kidding me right now? These instructions worked! Thank all of you who worked on this!

1) Leave resolution at 1920 x 1080

2) Flip the scaling from 150 to 100 to be able to see the activation screen.

3) Carefully type in the activation code listed on my Amazon download screen WITHOUT being able to see anything!

4) Flip the scale from 100 to 150 and back to 100 to be able to SEE the activation code I had just typed in!

5) Read screen and verify it was the CORRECT code.

6) Click on ACTIVATE

I tried all the steps to no avail.. I just see a spinning cursor! Anyone had any luck trying something else even after these steps didn't work?
