We tried, but couldn’t get any info from your file

Doing the Free Online Version this year and trying to transfer last years tax info from PC version Deluxe. The saved file is PDF and the file will load into the desktop Deluxe Version 2021 with no issues. Why am i getting this error:

Make sure your PDF contains last year’s return before trying again.

If you can get a pdf file to work, it will only transfer your name, ss number, and other personal information.  It will not transfer any of your tax data.  You need a 2020 tax file to start your 2021 return with data filled in.

I filed my last year's tax return Turbotax Deluxe 2020  I have the PIN I used to file it!    Please look further.  It is very difficult for me to type in all the info again as I have macular degeneration.

 

I did not 'renew' my renewal and purchased a 2021 Turbotax Deluxe on line from you.

 

Thank you for your assistance.   My address changed in 2019 from Madison, CT to Chester, CT and that was put in my information.

@drive18 It is not clear whether you are using online TurboTax for 2021 or the CD/download.   But whichever software you are using you have to do the transfer of 2020 to 2021 at the very beginning, before you enter any new 2021 data at all.

 

If you used online software last year you need to go to exactly the same account and user ID that you used for 2020.   Use the recovery tool if you forget how to access the account.

 

Many people have multiple TT accounts and forget how to access them.  Log out of the account you are in now.

Or....if you used the CD/download last year for 2020 then the tax file is stored on your own computer's hard drive.
