Please verify your entries into TurboTax:

  1. If you received Social Security, go to Federal > Income & Expenses. Scroll down to Retirement Plans and Social Security and click Revisit on Social Security.
  2. Ensure that the benefits are entered correctly and hit Continue.
  3. Did you receive any lump-sum payments? Answer No if no lump-sum payments are indicated on your Form SSA-1099.

Next, take a look at the 1099-R:

  1. Federal > Income & Expenses. Scroll down to Retirement Plans and Social Security and click Revisit on IRA, 401(k), Pension Plan Withdrawals (1099-R).
  2. Ensure the entries match your 1099-R. Pay attention to the total distribution box and the distribution code.
  3. Answer the additional questions.

If the error still hasn't been cleared, please let us know whether the Total Distribution Box on your 1099-R has been checked and the distribution code on the 1099-R.

Ahh! You should not be showing lump sum. A monthly check is a periodic payment. You need to let the program know.  Please follow these steps:

  1. Log back into your return
  2. Go to Federal Income section
  3. Select the 1099R and Edit
  4. Continue through entry screen,
  5. Double check, IRA box is blank
  6. Continue
  7. Public Safety Officer, NO
  8. Continue
  9. Where is this from? usually None of the Above, but select the correct answer for you
  10. Continue
  11. Select From a qualified plan
  12. What did you do?
  13. Select something else, cash, etc
  14. Continue
  15. Periodic payments?
  16. Select yes , you get monthly checks
  17. Continue
  18. Withdrawal due to disaster?
  19. Select NO
  20. Continue

This should resolve your CT issue by eliminating the lump sum issue.
