I was required to complete a W4 for my new job. It was my first time filling out the W4 form and I'm unsure if I filled it out correctly. I elected 1 for Single. How can I make future elections to increase my take-home pay? How do I update it so I don’t owe 2023 taxes next year? What does it mean if my employer asks me to update my W4? @HollyP

Hi hdriver2015, You can utilize our W-4 Calculator to see how adjusting your W-4 impacts the taxes you do in 2024.
Overall, employees may change their withholding for any reason and may do so whenever they wish. Employers must put an employee's new Form W-4 into effect no later than the start of the first payroll period ending on or after the 30th day after receipt of the revised Form W-4.
You can change your W-4 information with your payroll department.
At times, employers may want you to update your W-4 due to events during the year that may change an employee's exemptions, adjustments, deductions or credits he or she may expect to claim when filing a tax return. When this happens, the employee will need to give the employer a new W-4 to adjust his or her withholding.
Hope this helps. Thank you for asking.

With regard to future elecitons to increase your tax home pay, i suggest enrolling in a pension plan such as a 401(k) if your company has one, which would enable you to reduce your taxable income.
In addition, i suggest that you try our taxcaster calculator.
