W4 Extra withholding for IRS or State or both?

Attached: how does 4(c) Extra withholding work? If I put $100 there, will it be broken into two parts proportionally for IRS and State? Or all the $100 go to IRS?

How to make extra withholding for state?

Thanks.

The extra withholding you enter on form W-4 only applies to Federal tax withholding.

If you wish to have extra state tax withheld, you have to fill in a form W-4 specific to your state which you can find on your state's Department of Revenue.

is the extra withholding taken out each paycheck or is it split in half across 2 pay periods if you are paid bimonthly?

The extra would be taken out of each pay check.
