When you use the Estimated Taxes section in TurboTax Online to figure estimated taxes for 2025, TurboTax displays 2024 figures on the left side based on what you have input so far in your 2024 return for each specific item. The figures in the 2024 column are just for reference and will only change if you change the section where you initially input them (income, deductions, etc.)
On the right, in the 2025 column, it provides entry fields for you to estimate what the amounts for 2025 will be for each item of income and deductions.
The Estimated Taxes section allows you to prepare both the W-4 for wage withholding and the 1040-ES and estimated quarterly payments if you ask TurboTax to prepare both. I didn't see an issue in either the W-4 or Estimated Taxes section where I was prevented from changing figures in the 2025 column.
If you still need assistance troubleshooting this issue, you can send us a “diagnostic” file that has your “numbers” but not your personal information. If you would like to do this, here are the instructions for TurboTax Online users:
Go to the black panel on the left side of your program and select Tax Tools.
- Then select Tools below Tax Tools.
- A window will pop up which says Tools Center.
- On this screen, select Share my file with Agent.
- You will see a message explaining what the diagnostic copy is. Click okay through this screen and then you will get a Token number.
- Reply to this thread with your Token number. This will allow us to open a copy of your return without seeing any personal information.
We will then be able to see exactly what you are seeing and we can determine what exactly is going on in your return and provide you with a resolution.
