Updates for turbotax 2020 will not install. Any suggestions?

Worked like a champ. I removed it with the CD updated and then shut off auto updates. Your completed return remains intact. This makes me very nervous about using turbo tax in the future. The updates worked until they didn't. It would be nice to know how this happened. Was it Microsoft or Intuit.

Manual update errored with 1603. Uninstall with CD and reinstalled. Did not lose data.

Your Windows Installer is likely corrupted.    I also got Error Codes 1921 and 1603.

Go to YouTube and search for 'fix Windows Installer'.  Select the MD Tech video.  It is simple and the best presentation of all I looked at. 

After that, check Task Manager/Details and stop any Intuit update still in progress from your previous attempts.

This process worked for me.

Stuck in an endless loop. Downloaded the update and then manually updated it, but once it gets

to the need to restart TurboTax it again searches for automatic updates and then I get the

error message

Failed to install update. Microsoft installer error 1603 .....

Help, was just getting to file. Would hate to lose all my info if I reinstall (if that even works)

If you reinstall you won't lose your data files. The only way I found to fix it was to uninstall and reinstall the program, then apply the full update.

Reinstalling will not work if Windows Installer is corrupt.

Watch MD Tech YouTube video on how to fix Windows Installer and follow instructions.

Then open Task Manager and close any Intuit Updates in progress.

This is a real fix!

This error can occur when the Microsoft .NET Framework Installer can't install and/or update your system. Possible causes include:

• Damaged Windows file and folder permissions
• Damaged Windows Registry key permissions
• Damaged Microsoft .NET Framework installation

Please click Error 1603: "A fatal error occurred during installation or updating" and follow the troubleshooting steps.

This happened the first time I was downloading TurboTax 2020. When download was finished, it went to the 2020 Updater but when I tried to load the latest update it wouldn't download. It showed 7 minutes to download but never downloaded. I tried a manual download but got to the same screen and where it wouldn't download the update. Solution???

@304Sobotka Be sure your internet connection is stable. Before attempting to download again, in regard to the browser you are using, try deleting your browser's cookies. Please see this Turbo Tax FAQ regarding  How to delete cookies! If that doesn't work try using a different browser all together.  

You need to also make sure the device you are downloading to has ample memory to install the download.

I deleted the cookies per your instructions and reinstalled TurboTax 2020. It still gets stuck and doesn’t download the 2020 TurboTax-Updater file. ???

Then open Task Manager and stop any Intuit Installer that you find.

Nothing worked for me, spent 2 hours on the phone yesterday with TT customer service.  She told me to call  Microsoft.  Based on one commenter from several months ago, I turned off VIPRE and TT updated successfully.  Turned antivirus back on immediately after update.  Like others, I've used TT for 10+ years without this update issue (I've had VIPRE installed for 3+ years too).  TT, please fix this before next year's software!
