I owed IRS a small amount of money.. how can I tell that it was paid when I completed my taxes at checkout

I remember the option to pay the taxes owed to IRS via checkout, but I am not seeing that total when I look back at the invoice. Am I missing it?

Unless you picked an alternate date the default payment date for a direct debit is the due date of the return which is April 18, 2017 for the 2016 tax year. You will get no formal receipt from TT since technically they don't make the payment; they only forward the debit instructions to the fed or state taxing authority.  Your "receipt" will be on your bank or credit card statement. If you open the version of your return that includes all forms and worksheets, you should have the cover page for your Federal return. The cover sheet will have either your direct debit information (date to be withdrawn, account information and amount owed) or indicate to pay by check. Please follow the steps below to get the full download.

1. Login to https://myturbotax.intuit.com/ using the same username

2. Click on Taxes in the white banner at the top

3. Click on Download all forms and worksheets under the Some things you can do section below your 2016 statuses

Note: If you are using TurboTax Desktop (CD/Download product), you can find a copy of your return through the Print Center.

If you did not setup direct debit, you can pay the IRS directly at the website below.

https://www.irs.gov/Payments

If you did pick an alternate date then the payment is usually not initiated until the return is processed.

If you also owe the state ... read the state payment instructions carefully since most states cannot be paid from within the TT system and requires additional steps. https://ttlc.intuit.com/questions/1900884-what-are-my-options-for-getting-my-state-refund-or-for-pay...
