Unfortunately NC is one of a handful of states that did not adopt the federal exclusion of the first $10,200 of unemployment income. North Carolina law has not incorporated any of the tax law changes enacted in the American Rescue Plan Act.

Hi! I am a TurboTax Live CPA. You will not need to amend your federal return but you will need to amend your state of NC tax return. This can be done by selecting that you want to amend both returns but selecting that you are not ready to file the federal yet at the end of the preparation process.
