Did taxes on Turbotax 6 weeks ago, then found out about new tax treatment of unemployment benefits, and put filing on hold. Turbotax says they have made update now, so went in today and updated TT and reviewed my taxes. Absolutely nothing happened; no new guidance, and the refund amounts did not change. So what gives with Turbotax update on this?

The American Rescue Plan legislation allows taxpayers who earned less than $150,000 in adjusted gross income to exclude unemployment compensation up to $20,400 if married filing jointly or $10,200 for all other eligible taxpayers. If your AGI was more than $150,000 there would have been no change.
If your modified AGI is $150,000 or more, you can’t exclude any unemployment compensation. The exclusion will be on Schedule 1 Line 8 as a negative number. Your unemployment compensation will be on Line 7 of Schedule 1. The result flows to Form 1040 Line 8.
