For 2021 taxes I can't use the free online version if I enter Form 1099G. For the 2020 taxes I could. Why would TurboTax suddenly start charging for this, during Covid when so many people across the U.S. have received unemployment benefits? That's taking advantage of the situation!

According to a Turbo Tax source written by Champ rjs, "because of the change in the tax law in 2018, you cannot use TurboTax Free Edition if you received unemployment benefits. Because the IRS has made major changes to Form 1040 for 2018, TurboTax has had to change what tax situations are included in Free Edition. Some of the things that used to be included are no longer included.
The IRS has simplified Form 1040 by moving many of the entries that used to be on Form 1040 to a set of three separate schedules. There are no short forms 1040A or 1040EZ for 2018. All 2018 tax returns will be filed on Form 1040. TurboTax Free Edition for 2018 will only prepare simple tax returns that can be completed with Form 1040 itself. Anything that requires one of the three new schedules requires an upgrade.
Since Unemployment income has been moved to Schedule 1. Therefore it is not included in Free Edition."
That answer doesn't seem correct because when I filed my 2020 tax return I was able to include unemployment benefits in the online Free Edition. Now when I went to file my 2021 tax return I was NOT able to include my unemployment benefits in the online Free Edition and was automatically asked to choose which one of the upgraded editions I wanted to pay for.
