Why was I charged an additional $40 in addition to $89 on my credit card for our 2024 taxes?
I don’t recall authorizing this charge.

No one in the user forum can resolve a billing issue. If you have a question about your TurboTax fees or billing, make sure you use the word “billing” in your request for help. Do not use the word “refund.”

In the File section of the program on Step 1 after you were shown the Order Summary, the following screen asked how you wanted to pay the TurboTax account fees. The options were Pay with a credit card or Pay with your federal tax refund. Apparently you chose to pay with the federal tax refund which has a $40 processing fee.

You should review your fees in your TurboTax account to find out what type of fee you are being charged. Sometimes you start with the Free Edition (which is typically a simple form 1040), but as you enter more complex forms or sections you might be required to upgrade depending on your individual situation.
