An EIN is an employer identification number. It is sometimes also called a federal tax ID number. It will be on any W-2 or on some other tax documents. What are you trying to do?
I am trying to do an insolvent estate.

So you need a Tax ID?

I did get an EIN/TIN for my mother's estate.
I have TurboTax Deluxe for Windows. I open the app, then select Start a New Return, then Continue without Transferring. Then I select Continue, and next is some misc questions, name, birthdate, zip code, etc. At the Do any of these apply? question, I select the Passed away before filing this return box and a Passed away date box is added. I enter 05/08/2020 and I receive a Please enter a passed away date in 2021. The software won't let me go any further. How do I get the estate forms?

The estate return (1041) must be prepared using TurboTax Business. See .Which TurboTax do I need to file a return for an estate?
The fiduciary of a domestic decedent's estate, trust, or bankruptcy estate files Form 1041 to report:
To do a 1041 Estate/Trust return you need Turbo Tax Business. It is a separate program from Home & Business. It is not available to do online or on a Mac. You can buy the Window's version here…..
